Japanese minimalist electronic composer Ryoji Ikeda is a starring digit among the modern crop of computer-based musicians exploring the esthetical possibilities opened up by digital production technologies. Released through his possess CCI Recordings, the U.K.-based Touch label, and Staalplaat, among others, Ikeda's music engages the digital recording and production treat now, playing up pernicious glitches and interruptions typically emended out of that action and combine them with deeply complex and disjointed collages of samples, pure tone electronics, and heavily treated digital noise. More recent releases have added elements of the experimental post-techno subgenre-scape to Ikeda's hard disk stew, with bits of jungle, nickname, and minimum techno cropping up between the crackles and whines. Vaguely related -- at least in spirit -- to American minimalist and computing device composer such as LaMonte Young, Steve Reich, Terre Thaemlitz, and John Bischoff, Ikeda's crop is as well in close harmony with German and Austrian post-techno artists such as Farmers Manual and Rehberg/Bauer, with whom he has collaborated live. Mostly unknown in Japan, his crop as a solo artist and in collaboration with Japanese audio/video company Dumb Type has gained him a wider audience in the U.S. and Europe.

Kiss - Kiss Manager Confirms New Members Rumours

The manager of rock band KISS has confirmed the group are in talks to launch a TV talent show to find replacements for frontman PAUL STANLEY and guitarist GENE SIMMONS - when the duo eventually retire.

It has long been rumoured that founding members Stanley and Simmons hope to keep the band running when they decide to quit - but both men have been evasive when asked about whether any new members have been signed up and if the takeover will happen after their current (08) world tour.

The rock veterans are the only original members left in the band, which was marred by the departure of Ace Frehely and Peter Criss and the death of Eric Carr in 1991 - the group now includes replacements Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer.

But their longtime manager Doc MCGhee insists that there are indeed plans to replace all four band members and keep KISS alive for a new generation - they are close to signing a deal to find their replacements through an American Idol-style TV show.

MCGhee says in a new TV documentary about the band, "I believe that KISS can go on forever. I believe that there is a way - and we are talking to people and we're pretty close to getting it done - about finding the four new members of KISS."

Amy Winehouse Racism Video Appears Online

Amy Winehouse is the subject of a racist scandal today, as the News Of The World has posted a video online of her singing a racist song.

The video, as shot by Winehouse's husband Blake Fielder-Civil, shows Amy and an undisclosed friend singing the words "Blacks, Pakis, Gooks and Nips, Gooks and Nips" to the tune of children's song 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes'.

The video also shows the singer surrounded by what looks like drug paraphernalia such as crack pipes. The paper claims the footage was shot in May 2007 before Winehouse and Fielder-Civil got married.

The Kooks - Kooks Miss Out On Meeting Kylie

THE KOOKS were disappointed that they missed the chance to meet KYLIE MINOGUE after she did not allow them entry to her recent after-party.

The pop princess was celebrating the opening night of her X2008 tour in Paris and held a small party after the show, which the band, who were shooting a video in the French capital, hoped to attend.

Frontman LUKE PRITCHARD told the Sun newspaper: "We heard she was having a party and so asked if we could come."

However, the group are not letting one rejection hold them back, with Luke telling the publication: "We were gutted. I like her and her songs. I won't give up. We'll try again next time we're in the same city."

THE KOOKS were in Paris shooting the video for their latest single DO YOU WANNA.

The band closed the festivities on the final evening of One Big Weekend in Kent last night, treating fans to renditions of their hits SEASIDE and ALWAYS WHERE I NEED TO BE.

Luke finished the set by attempting to climb the barrier separating him from the crowd and had to be hauled back by security staff.

Indie prison flicks are breakout trend

Allegory for powerlessness or just exploitation?

CANNES -- With boxoffice for indie films taking a nose dive and new Cannes market titles seen as tough to market, many North American buyers feel like they're in a kind of prison, living day to day with little hope, their spirits beaten down again and again.


Perhaps it's because so many of the films they've been seeing lately have characters going to prison, in prison or just out of prison. At a time when distributors are desperately seeking upbeat indie fare after many dark dramas and Iraq War films have failed, what could be bleaker?


Cannes alone featured more than 10 films on the subject, including "Lion's Den," about Argentinean women raising their toddlers in jail; "My Life Inside," a docu about a Mexican woman imprisoned in Texas; and "Wendy and Lucy," in which Michelle Williams gets arrested for shoplifting dog food. None of these women-in-prison films, however, carries the commercial genre appeal of, say, a tormented Linda Blair in "Born Innocent" or one of Jonathan Demme's proudest moments, the women's prison riot flick "Caged Heat."


Men behind bars can now be found in abundance. In James Toback's docu "Tyson," the heavyweight champ recalls fellow inmates throwing "fecal matter" at guards. Adding to the fun, "Four Nights With Anna" centers on a man released from prison for a rape he didn't commit -- only to be arrested for another rape he didn't commit.


Although most buyers have shied away from the subject matter, IFC Films fearlessly has taken the plunge in Cannes, picking up U.S. rights to the intense IRA prison hunger strike drama "Hunger." Defamer's S.T. VanAirsdale thinks there might even be a market for such films. "Millions of Americans have been to prison," he said. "It's kind of nostalgic."


And a few filmmakers are taking a more accessible, lighthearted approach to incarceration. On the heels of the comedies "Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay" and "Let's Go to Prison," Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor will soon be seen as amorous cellmates in "I Love You Phillip Morris."


So what is it about prison that's creating a flood in the theatrical pipeline?


"Filmmakers always position themselves as the underdog," Movie City News columnist Ray Pride said. "If you're confined in a prison cell, what more apt allegory for being powerless is there?"


Dustin Smith, a film scholar and director of acquisitions at Roadside Attractions, has another take. "I'd like to think that it's a collective, worldwide yearning to break free of the constrictive and terrifying times in which we've all been living the past few years," he said. "But my guess is that it's more just an artistically acceptable way to film poop, nudity and chicks fighting."

The Associated Push reports that Duhamel's publiciser, George Herman Ruth Leonard Bernstein, said that the actor had asked the vocaliser to wed him.
No other details were released.
35-year-old Duhamel is reported to have been geological dating 32-year-old Ferguson for around three years.
